It’s been almost a year since I last posted on here, and I’m still trying to find my way through the gay dating world.
I’ve spent countless hours with my psychologist, working through things as they come up, understanding myself better, and making sure I can show up as a healthy, emotionally available partner. I’ve put in the work, and I continue to do so. Yet here I am, still single, still trying, and still feeling like I’m never the one someone chooses.
I genuinely struggle to understand where the disconnect is in gay dating today. I know having children adds another layer of complexity. I can’t always drop everything on a whim, and my life comes with responsibilities. But being a dad is one of the most rewarding parts of who I am. It has taught me patience, stability, commitment, and what it truly means to love someone unconditionally.
Those aren’t limitations. They’re qualities I would bring into a relationship.
I’m not looking for perfection, endless options, or something casual to fill the time. I’m looking for a genuine connection with someone who wants to build something meaningful, who understands that relationships require intention, consistency, and effort from both people.
I have a full life, two incredible kids, and so much love and care to give. I don’t need someone to complete my life. I want someone who genuinely wants to be part of it.
I think the hardest part isn’t being single. It’s knowing what I have to offer, being willing to show up wholeheartedly, and continually feeling like I’m never the person someone chooses to show up for.
And after a while, that really does wear on you.
I know genuine connection can be scary, especially when you’ve been hurt before. But at what point does a man learn to trust what’s standing right in front of him instead of running from it? When does he stop retreating into the same familiar patterns, repeating cycles of unhealthy behaviour and disappointment, and give something real a chance?
Sometimes I wonder how many genuinely good connections are lost simply because someone is more comfortable with what they know, even when it continually lets them down, than taking a chance on something that could actually make them happy.
